BBC News is my homepage. Not that I'm actually informed--normally I just sort of skim the headlines as I move on to check my email or whatever. This recent war, however, has got me actually reading articles and such. It's been grabbing my attention the way the normal headlines generally don't. Particularly when they posted pictures of the recently levelled Beirut. I thought, 'Holy shit, that pile of rubble used to be a city.' It's incredibly sad, and also incredibly frustrating because I feel like there is simply nothing I can do about any of it.

Also, it seems like nobody around me actually cares that Israel and Lebanon (but, it seems, mostly Israel) are bombing the crap out of each other. When I first heard about the conflict I was working at Bojangles, where we had TVs playing CNN all the time. I heard 'Hezbollah bombs Haifa' and my ears were pricked and eyes glued to the screen as often as I could spare them. But only a few of the customers even batted an eyelash, and none of the other staff even seemed to care. But when I was there the other night, picking up my paychecks (last ones--no more contact with Bojangles ever, woohoo!), the manager was watching with rapt attention how Mel Gibson was being charged with a DUI or whatever that was.

Blah. Stupid war. Stupid people killing people. Stupid apathetic other people (and stupid useless concerned people such as myself).

I am tired and gloomy. This has been an incredibly shitty week. I've been all mixed up about moving stuff, and really stressed out over not knowing quite where I'll be living for the next couple of weeks. Also, I think I've managed to piss off just about everyone I've interacted with all week. Not all of this was my fault. For instance, I think I annoyed one of the waitresses tonight by reminding her to dump the juice from the mussels in the sink, as she was supposed to do, instead of the trash. Still, I don't like irritating people. And my toe hurts. That is all. Well, not really, but that's all the complaining I have time for tonight. I have to get up early tomorrow to move.
