Agreed.
If I miss anywhere, I miss Chapel Hill.
I see what you mean though. Even when I was in the thick of Chatham County, I never found any identity in "The South" for a lot of the reasons you mentioned (on different levels, of course).
I do miss the weather, cause hot definitely kills cold.
